Since a vitamin B deficiency is known to be a cause of hair loss, many of the alternative treatments begin with getting the proper amounts of vitamin B into your system. The vitamin B group consists of niacin, B5, B6 and B12. Vitamin B can be taken as a supplement, but is also found in many different foods. Good sources of vitamin B6 are bananas, chicken breast and potatoes, while good sources of vitamin B12 are eggs, milk, fish and poultry.
Biotin is another popular vitamin taken to promote hair regrowth. Biotin can be found in many multivitamins, as a stand-alone supplement or in foods such as peanuts, eggs and dairy products.
Vitamin A
Vitamin A is an important part of the hair cycle for the reason that it keeps the sebaceous glands from getting clogged and drying out. While too much sebum may lead to hair loss, the scalp needs a certain amount of sebum to prevent thickening, which will inhibit new hair growth. Vitamin A is found in many foods, such as squash, carrots and leafy vegetables. Too much vitamin A, the recommended daily allowance is 700 mcg, can have an adverse effect on hair, so watch your intake, especially if taking vitamin A as a supplement.
Vitamin E
Vitamin E is important to hair growth as it improves circulation to the scalp, as well as has superior antioxidant properties, which strengthen the body's immune system. Vitamin E can be taken as a supplement and also can be found in almonds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, spinach and hazelnuts.
Amino Acids
Are vital for health and vitality.
Cysteine amino acid fights against hair loss and Arginine stimulates hair growth.
Healthy hair and hair growth also needs the mineral zinc.
Studies show that applying EMU oil to your scalp can rejuvenate resting hair follicles by 80%.
